About Us

Barr provides engineering and environmental consulting services to clients across the Midwest, throughout the Americas, and around the world. We have been employee owned since 1966 and trace our origins to the early 1900s. Working together, our nearly 800 engineers, scientists, and technical specialists help clients develop, manage, process, and restore natural resources.

Headquartered in Minneapolis, Barr acquired Abe W. Mathews Engineering Co. of Hibbing in 1994 for its mechanical, structural, civil, metallurgical, and electrical engineering and design expertise in bulk-materials handling and processing systems, emission-control systems, and taconite pellet plants. In business since 1952, AWMECO had a solid reputation with clients on the Iron Range for excellence and service.

Barr also has offices in Duluth, Minnesota; Ann Arbor and Grand Rapids, Michigan; Jefferson City, Missouri; Bismarck, North Dakota; Salt Lake City, Utah; and Calgary, Alberta; Denver. Colorado; Reno, Nevada; Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Canada. Our satellite offices are located in Fort McMurray, Alberta and Rock Springs, Wyoming.

Barr’s project teams serve the mining, power, and fuels industries, natural-resource-management organizations, and others with complex problems.
